I went to see a screening on campus called Boyband by Colleen Griffen, a comedy about a boy band with one hit trying to figure out what is next. It is connected to this class because it challenged the stereotypes of people who are in bands and participate in music. This connected with beginning topics of the course about how art and science are really one in the same. It is the same with people, like a lot of students feel a pull towards the arts or the sciences. When in reality there is the option to genuinely be interested in music/art and everything. One of the boys felt he could not be a confident member of the band because he was academically strong, or what can be classified as a nerd, in school. I enjoyed this screening because each of the boys in the band offered a different dynamic. I would recommend that the other classmates see this screening because it is a light hearted comedy that still uses entertainment as a purpose to convey messages that a person is not limited to stereotypes. This was important to me because that is something that I am learning by being enrolled in this class and in reality students are much more complex and complicated than being bound to typecasts.
